Shirui 

The village is home to people of Tangkhul Naga tribe and it consist of two parts, Shirui Ato and Shirui Aze but lives together in the same location even though each one has different headman.

Shirui is rich in natural sources like water, which provides water to the main town of Ukhrul District and has many varieties of flora and fauna.

 Majority of the inhabitants are Christians. Agriculture is the primary occupation of the inhabitants. Shirui Lily, the state flower of Manipur state blooms at Shirui Kashong.

Due to unchecked deforestation and climate change, the population of the wild flower is said to be depleting every year and has been tagged as an endangered flower. Every year, the village hosts a week long festival called the Shirui Lily week to showcase the rich Tangkhul traditional cuisines and attires, flower show, painting competition and entertainment programmes as an attempt to spread awareness to safeguard the rare flower. In 2017, the Government of Manipur declared Shirui Lily Festival as a state festival which is now being celebrated every year with much fanfare.

Shirui Lily, a typical variety of Lily is grown on the top of the Kashong Peak.

The height of the Kashong is about 2986 meters from the sea level. Shirui Lily, a locally known as Timrawon is a rarest and endemic species of Lily that is grown on the hump-shaped Shirui Kashong peak. It was discovered in 1946 by late Frank Kingdon Ward. Shirui Lily won the coveted Royal Horticulture society's award of merit and Prestigious prize at the 'Chelsea Flower Show' England in 1950. Lilium Mackliniae is the Botanical name of Shirui Lily.

On 21st March 1988, the Manipur State declared Shirui Lily as the State Flower.

Shirui Lily is a seasonal flowering plants and blooms best in the mid of May till June.

The flower is light pinkish in colour. The beauty of the flower lies in its bell-shaped petals in bowing position like worshiping to the Almighty God. 

Besides Shirui Lily, more than 100 different flowering plants including rare Orchids are found at the Shirui Kashong peak. Since then, Shirui Kashong has been one of the most attractive tourist spots of the state.

 

Shirui Kashong is also known as an abode to many species of birds and animals. It is also famous as a home for many wild beasts. There is a belief that if one stands on the Kashong and makes a wish, it gets accomplished.
